We realized that true transformation doesn’t happen because someone is told to “pull themselves up by their bootstraps” Real transformation happens when a community chooses to stand beside its neighbors and place the right resources within reach.
That’s why Z Stay Foundation exists.
We believe that every resource is a stepping stone towards independence. A safe place to sleep becomes the foundation for employment. Employment creates financial stability. Financial stability opens the door to opportunity. Opportunity restores confidence. And confidence empowers people to build the future they deserve.
Our mission is simple:
To create a safer Birmingham by connecting individuals with the housing, resources and relationships they need to thrive- one housing placement and one resource at a time.
We don’t believe in temporary fixes. We believe in building pathways. Through strategic partnerships, community collaboration, housing initiatives, workforce development, educational opportunities, and supportive services, we work to remove barriers that prevent individuals and families from moving forward. Because when one person finds, stability, an entire family is strengthened. When one family is strengthened, a neighborhood becomes safer. And when communities choose to pour into one another, lasting change becomes possible.
It started with one person. It became a Mission.
Sometimes the greatest movements begin with the simplest act of saying “How can I help?”
For us it started with helping a family friend navigate one of his most difficult seasons. We believed we were solving one problem- finding safe housing. Instead, we uncovered something much greater.
We discovered that housing was only one piece of the puzzle.
Behind every request for a place to stay was a story. A veteran trying to rebuild after service. A survivor seeking safety. A senior living on a fixed income. An individual returning home after incarceration. A person working hard to overcome addiction. Families simply searching for stability.
What they all had in common wasn’t a lack of determination.
It was a lack of access.
Access to safe housing.
Access to employment.
Access to transportation.
Access to healthcare.
Access to education.
Access to community.
